checking out the "darkside"

It's amazing how we go through all of these so called stages of our lives. Well, I am sure, this is one of my "stages" too, but the real stage I am talking about is the one that we will be adventuring on this evening...we are going to look at a freaking mini-van. Yep, that's right, we will be checking out the gosh-awful, soccer-mom official, family decal on back window, absurdity.....called a mini-f-ing-van. I am a bit disappointed in myself for being excited to go look at it, but I can't freaking wait to get one? Have you seen my old garage that is a bit too narrow for my french fry eating behind to try and lift two boys in and out of car seats while having the "bomber" doors of our Honda Element swung open? Doesn't work very well for me, but a remote-control van door sure as heck would. Well, having kids and I guess, just wanting to leave the house, would make me officially excited to go look at a mini-van.
The reason for this great timing for our mini-van shopping you ask, I mean, why wouldn't anyone want to WAIT until their newborn is 5-weeks old to shop for a used car? Oh because, Carol the Corolla, circa 1999, has failed her emissions test, what an absolute "B" she is. But, the lover in me says she has given us so much over the last 9-years that I must be grateful at what she has made it through, at a very low cost! So, we will go and "tremble"or maybe it's trot into the dealership tonight to look at our first mini-van, but let me tell you it's sweeeet...heated seats, my one wish may be coming true (those of us with large behinds like to keep them warm in the good ol Wisco winter) among other mini-van amenities.
There is so much stigma when it comes to getting a mini-van, but I often ask myself, why do I even care? Cause, I am not always 100% sure why, but I guess it is because it officially makes us older, it is something that some of our friends rip on, and finally my friend Carrie put it like this to me...."When I finally do get out of my house on a date with my husband, I just do not feel sexy showing up in my mini-van, even if I am rocking my heels." The great news for me is that I rarely wear heals!!
And so we start the process to crossing over to the "dark side" of the driving world! :)

Update on 4.27.2012 - We got a mini-van, that night!! I am loving it, it is perfect, minus the fact that it is quite large and I feel like "that mom" it is amazing! It has everything I ever wanted in a vehicle, at an affordable price! Super happy and excited to go places as our new family of four!! :)
